Recently a city judge barred a city ruling that required all new taxicabs to be fuel efficient hybrids. Hybrids cost more than their conventional counterparts but can bring about huge cost savings, especially if the fuel costs are high. But not everyone is excited about them

Hybrid taxis are less comfortable and more dangerous with a partition, so riders and drivers take the risk! Did anyone see speeding (over 30 mph) hybrid taxi on Park Ave? They’re take so much risk, many of them run the red light to make more money.

Thanks for the post. Very fair story. very true on all counts. It would be nice if we had a better solution, but we don’t. I don’t believe the argument of safety holds much water though. What I would like to see is a large cheaper hybrid, or just low emission, car with adequate trunk space and a low center of gravity. A good turning radius wouldn’t hurt either.
