A taxi driver known as the city’s most honest cabbie for returning $70,000 in rare jewels he found in the backseat has died at age 51.
Nestor Sulpico made front-page headlines in 2004 when he tracked down the owner of the rare South Pacific black pearls and immediately returned them - even though he made just $80 a day driving a cab. He used the $5,500 reward to study nursing.
Sulpico died in his native Philippines on Thursday from stomach cancer, according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
