New York City livery cab owners are fighting new rules that would let riders use their smartphones to “e-hail” yellow cabs, something that has grown in popularity in cities around the world.
The Wall Street Journal says livery cab groups filed a lawsuit Thursday. It argues that the regulations would violate a law that bans yellow-cab drivers from pre-arranging rides with passengers.
The “e-hail” rules were supposed to start Friday, despite the legal challenge. However, the technology isn’t ready for installation yet.
David Yassky, the chairman of the Taxi and Limousine Commission, says the groups that are suing want to keep the taxi industry and New Yorkers “in the dark ages.”
Adds Yassky: “Next thing, they’ll be suing restaurants to go back to wood-burning stoves.”
A Manhattan judge will hear arguments on Feb. 28.

David Yassky wants to reinvent the wheel, but an oval wheel doesn’t work. NYC cabs have not been dispatched (and pre-arrangement is illegal according to this article) and it is obvious why. There are thousoands of riders wanting cabs, and thousands of cabs picking up street hails, with the traffic terrain so dangerous, those with keen intuitivity can see the horrible mess in their mind’s eye. Money Interests are at the root of changes to the NYC cab industry. First $billions taken out of every card processed fare and ultimately riders paying increased fares to cover that take.
Too many NYC cabs and other transportation vehicles RACING to a dispatched job — reeks of a terrifying dangerous mess. Too many accidens racing to a location.
I have read the lawsuit. The livery association appears to have a very solid case. If you want to read this lawsuit it can be read and downloaded from this site:

Scroll down to the bottom of the article and you will see the legal document. You can read it there or you can click download to save it in a larger text.
I must say that even though I can see an advantage for the medallion taxis in that they will be able to take fares in outer locations that are mainly served by liveries, I really have no sympathy for the app providers. All they care about is the money they will bleed from the industry. They have no regard for those they will hurt!
The nonsense will stop when NYC taxi riders march on the TLC. As we reflect on the past several years’ developments, we clearly see that all the changes to NYC taxi operations is based on who can get the money out of the back seat, which in turn lowers the cabbies’ pay, and in turn drives the fares up, half of which goes to the rich pants rental garages.
Did the NYC taxi riders, the real commuters and cab users, want all this nonsense in the back seat?
Will riders stand for open-heart surgery conducted in the back, back seat of a NYC taxi, subsidized first by the cab driver, and ultimately by the riders?
Time for the NYC taxi riders to WAKE UP and march on the TLC. And stop falling into the trap when asked, wouldn’t you like X in the back seat of a cab? Yeah? You pay for it.
The money interests are taking money out of the NYC cab backseat operations, and the riders are ultimately paying for it, along with the cabbie who spends all day worrying about the open-heart surgery and the instruments he is responsible for supplying. LOL
I saw you blckcars taking my passengers, not one day, nor one year but 24/7, you called me bad names, you told me go back where Yu came from, you, gave me fingers, but god and time are against you, now I tell you put down you cars and go swipe time sq the sons of the relief stands. They always sleep in relëïf stands for hours. I hate them when they give us cabbies a bad look. Cabbies have high degrees and phds. Black cars and limousine drivers must take an extract course of how to respects cabbies.
Spear, Black Car Drivers are nothing but doochebags!
I believe with Mr> Yassky, that we should not keep transportation in the dark.
This is why we shall allow taxis to be dispatched onprearrangement, and also allow livery cars to pickup street hails in Manhattan legally.
Considering it is all about the customer first. If customer wants to get into a livery, who is the yellow cabby and the TLC to decide in my best interest to ride and pay a cabby who is not only driving recklessly fast but illuminates the OFF DUTy light, when the only hope of getting anywhere is with a LIVERY.
