Cab owners want the “Taxi of Tomorrow” gone today.
Two groups of cab owners filed suit against the city yesterday in a bid to slam the brakes on the Taxi and Limousine Commission’s plans to replace the fleet with Nissan NV200s starting in late 2013.
The Committee for Taxi Safety and Taxifleet Management LLC suit says the 10-year deal means “Nissan will have a monopoly” and demands a court order to render the deal “null and void.”
The city’s Law Department said “the lawsuit lacks merit.”
First everyone had to have a hybrid now no one can. I think the law is you have to be given a choice of more than one to buy but I am not sure. Why doesnt Bloomberg try incentives instead of dictating and being a tyrant. Bloomberg will have better luck with incentives. And the city should stop using the cab industry as a cash cow. That is not what it is for. It is for drivers to earn a living. How much is this cab of tomorrow?
It should be Hybrids and electric cars for all taxis. Ugly, L-shaped dirty partitions should be replaced with the state-of-art cab security cameras to have more legrooms and space in smaller cabs. Get rid of that ugly-looking wires to the meter in every cab. It’s time to improve yellow cab interiors. It’s should be refined like the limos, and car services have.
B Desai turns against her own drivers by backing the Mayors outer boro plan and 2000 more medallions which will cost lease drivers all of the raise plus. Why did she do it? All because the mayor and yassky gave her some attention. People will do anything to look good. Kiss your raise goodbye if Desai helps the mayor by adding 2000 more cabs and countless outer boro cabs. Why is she for this?
I think the terminolgy is incorrect, any vehical going back to using fully gas is call Taxi of past, To me, wha taxi of Tomorrow meant is hybird , solar energy or full electric. why aren’t city buses go back to use fully gas or disel power?

The TLC should not have the authority to limit the options of what car to buy. They should only have the authority to set the specifications for safety and doing business. Any vehicle that meets these specifications should be allowed.
Hopefully, this law suit will put the TLC in its proper place.

umm… hello isn’t damn near every cab in ny and other parts of the us a Ford Crown Victoria how the hell is that not a monopoly?
In our country you can not do any buisiness for monopoly. Because this is the law of America. Right now there is a case for nyc taxi cab. For staring Oct 2013 year, this cty force every taxi must be use only one brand for taxi.
